After the ice storm: Mary Kellogg cometh

by Jon Katz

Mary, reading from some of her amazing new poems in my iiving room at Bedlam Farm

January 11, 2008 – Cold, sunny. Mary Kellogg, my friend, and the talented poet and author of “My Place On Earth,” her first volume of poetry, braved the snow last night to come over for dinner. It is always wonderful to see Mary, but especially so when she reads one of her new poems:

    “After the Ice Storm”

sunlight scatters ice diamonds on the snow
bent birches flaunt feather ice plumes
    on ballerina stems
    their crusts burning brilliant
    in the frozen drama

           Mary Kellogg, Dec. 08

(“Out of The Shadows,” my text and photo book about my bout with fear and depression last fall can now be ordered from the Troy Bookmakers. It will be out next week. Mary’s next volume of poetry, as yet untitled, will be published next Spring.
