“Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk up on the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they will sing to me.”
– T.S. Eliot. Prufrock and Other Observations.
It occurred to me last year that every morning, when I got up, I was afraid of something. I decided to do these things I was afraid of anyway. A year later, I am still afraid, but less afraid, and I’ve done a lot of things I didn’t believe I could or would do. I intend to be less afraid yet, as quickly as I can get there.
I don’t know if mermaids will sing to me, but I dare to eat a peach.
