Rose, in her private place

by Jon Katz

September 1, 2008 – Feedback is valuable, even though many people think it isn’t wanted. Some kinds of feedback are not that welcome. I don’t talk about my private life more than I reveal in the books and blogs and can take care of myself and I have excellent medical care.
Creative feedback is wonderful, and I appreciate it. I take a lot of photos and write a lot of things, and I often don’t realize myself what I’m doing. The earlier photo of Rose in the barn was one I barely thought about, other than to realize Rose has her own life and I don’t always know about it. The response was so positive and enthusiastic that I went back to look at it, and realized that it was special, and I took one of those and put it up in black and white. Rose loves this quiet spot in the pig barn, where she rests and listens and waits. If I can’t find her, she’s there. I will take more photos of this, and I thank you for the response.
Don’t worry about bothering me. If I’m not interested, I will just ignore it. I am not easily offended and I appreciate the feedback. It helps me grow. I don’t hold grudges, stew or seethe. If it isn’t something I don’t have time for or don’t want to talk about, I move on. Writers and artists ought not be isolated, I think, or be seen as too fragile to bother. Response provides encouragement, criticism, and helps me grow. I only see what is in front of me, and with more eyes, I can see more.
So thanks for the response to the Rose photo. I’m on it.
