Do it right, or not at all

by Jon Katz

August 29, 2008 – So I did go out and take some photos. I love this artist thing, because nothing and noone can take it away with you. Like love, you carry it in your heart, and it belongs to you, and when you need it, it’s all you need. Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it is pure joy. I often think these days, when something comes up, to do it right, or don’t do it.
Standing out by the meadow, I remember when I first got Izzy, and we stood close to this spot, and he saw something far in the distance, and took off so fast I could hardly speak and when I next saw him, he was all the way across the meadow, across the road, across the creek, and sitting on a lawn mower all the way into town, staring right into the startled eyes of the man driving it. He just wanted a closer look.
I started to shout, but it was too far for him to hear, and I started to run, but it was too far to run, and suddenly, he was back beside me, panting slightly, looking at me curiously, wondering why I was shouting, and so excited. And I was frightened, and worried, and he has not left my side since.
