Rose, holding the sheep
August 20, 2008 – Rose inspires me, and reminds me to do my work, and do it faithfully and well. She is the CEO of the farm, in some ways, acting with clarity and decisiveness, and always with authority.
I imagine sometimes that after I am asleep, Rose calls Lenore and Izzy to a nightly meeting, and she is sitting in the living room wearing spectacles and holding a yellow-lined legal pad. She goes over the state of farm, and talks about me, and the odd things I am doing, like running around taking photos and being disorganized. Lenore interrupts the meeting to ask about food, and to inquire about taking a break to play. She finds Rose unaccountably serious.
Izzy talks about his girlfriends, admires himself, and recounts our travels around the country, including his hospice work. Rose rolls her eyes at all the confusion. She wonders when I will get organized, focus better, settle down.
Rose comments about this sheep or that, this animal, the strange behavior of the goats, lists the next day’s chores. Izzy talks some more about his many human girlfriends. Then they all go to sleep.
