The hospice idea, at the Washington County Fair

Izzy, who has brightened the passage of many people on the edge of life

August 18, 2008 – Izzy and I and Lenore will be at the hospice booth at the Washington County Fair almost every day and night this week to support the idea of hospice, which is to end the mistreatment, isolation and abandonment of the dying by a culture that doesn’t really want to deal with them, or acknowledge their existence.
We have to know of their existence, and are committed to telling their stories and spreading the message of hospice, which is: you have choices about how you die, and you don’t have to die alone or in a hospital hooked up to machines, or suffer in pain. I have met some of the most wonderful people in the world at the edge of life, and encountered more love, faith and friendship than I have ever know. They have helped me and healed me, and shown me how to love and grow. I honor them in every way I can. If you can, come by the hospice booth in the health building of the Washington County Fair and meet Izzy, who is always worth the trip. I will be crawling all over the fair taking photos of everything that isn’t nailed down, and many things that are.
