Annie’s victory over Pizzle Rot

by Jon Katz

Annie and Rose, a powerful team.

August 14, 2008 – Annie finally triumphed over Pizzle Rot, a slightly revolting infection of a wether’s (neutered ram’s) private parts). I cannot tell you how many times Rose and Annie and I have gathered the sheep into the training pen, pushed them into a corner while Rose held them in place, and Annie crawled around, treating this stubborn infection with a variety of medications and creams. It’s been about three months, I think. Today when we checked Brutus, he was clean. One more to go.
Nobody but Annie – including me – would do this. She suffers bugs, mud, smells, and slightly dangerous crowding and shoving. Rose has been her usual stellar self, firmly holding the sheep in place. Nobody loves animals more than Annie, or is more faithful to them. Nobody gets it done like Rose. No wonder they beat it.
