Rose herds the obnoxious goats, saves a tree!

by Jon Katz

The annoying goats were working on a pine tree in the pasture, and so I got tired of it, and told Rose to move them off of it, and this quite remarkable creature looked a me, then the goats and took off after them, backed them off of the tree and towards the shrub they should be eating, and they actually took direction from her, for the first time, and she was beside herself, having finally mastered moving them around – not by getting behind them, as she would sheep, but by staring them head on and back them up. Goats to not like confrontations. Go, girl. Chalk up another ribbon for Rose. Then, later when the goats took another whack at the tree, I said, “Rose, back them off, ” and she just did. I love Rose. And I admire her.
