The animals on this farm never ceased to amaze and uplift me, from Hospice work to the adaptability and generousity of spirit I sometimes see, for which there is little explanation or understanding. Minnie was a feral kitten who is now one of my barn cats, and she adores Wisnton, the two of them hang out together all the time when he is in th barn. When we brought Winston’s injured body into the barn, Minnie appeared and has been lying watching him, sometimes rubbing against, for several hours now.
It is an amazing thing to see. I never know what is going on in the mind of an animal, but she is keeping vigil over Winston, who is gravely injured and may not survive, and is not moving. Minnie seems to be keeping him company, watching him. Who knows, really? But like Lenore and Brutus, it is a mystery to me.
There is corn, grain and water within reach for Winston and we will clean his wounds shortly. If he is in great distress, we may have to put him down.
