June 18, 2008 – Cloudy, cool. Mary Kellogg, me, Izzy and Lenore and poetry lovers will be in Albany at 1 p.m. Sunday at The Bookhouse, 1475 Western Avenue, in Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany (518 437-0101) to hear her read from her new book of poems “My Place On Earth,” the first book to be published by Bedlam Farm Books and sold at local bookstores and through the website of The Troy Bookmakers (www.thetroybookmakers.com). I will introduce her and Hospice dogs Izzy and Lenore will be on hand to spread some love around.
Mary is a gifted poet and a remarkable human being and she has been writing poetry since she was eleven years old. She is a friend and a neighbor, and when I saw her poems, and showed them to others, it was clear they needed to be published.
Her poems are graceful, powerful and distinctly American, evoking a time and place in poignant ways – her place on earth. She talks eloquently about her childhood, her family the loss of her husband Dick, and her own memories of farm life and simpler time.
Mary has finally given voice to her creativity, and everyone who has been at her readings has been moved, and much impressed. Come by Saturday afternoon if you can. The book is $14.95 and the first two printings have been sold out. In includes some photos by me, my first published photos. The book was edited by Maria Heinrich.
