Grazing the sheep with Rose twice a day, I am amazed at how efficient sheep are, how they work a pasture in rows, turning in circles, plowing through quite a bit of low grass. I am happy to be grazing the sheep, though it definitely takes up a lot of the day. Good for me, and has really connected me to them, Rose and the farm. It is good for the soul, ancient work, spiritual work, and doing it with a great working dog like Rose only deepens the experience. I suspect it is in the blood of all of us somewhere.

Reminder: Mary Kellogg’s book of poems, “My Place On Earth,” the first book published by Bedlam Farm Books, will go on sale next week at bookstores and via thetroybookmakers.com website. It will not be sold on this site, or by me. It is a great collection of poetry from an extraordinarily talented writer who has been writing poems since she was eleven, and has only recently shown them to the world.
Reminder, cont.
Also: At 2 p.m. June 8, at Gardenworks, Route 30, Salem, N.Y. (518 854 3250), I will talk about my work as a Hospice Volunteer and show some of the photos from the Hospice Journal. Hospice officials will also talk about Hospice. Mary Kellogg will read some poems. Maria Heinrich will display and sell her quilts. Izzy and Lenore will be on hand, and I will talk about working with the dogs in Hospice. There will be music, and the great stuff Gardenworks offers – baked goods, as in muffins and pies, flowers from their greenhouse, gourmet cheese and fresh, organic farm produce.
This is the first public showing of the Hospice Journal photos, which are hitting the road, locally and beyond. Some of the photos may be sold to benefit Hospice.
