May 16, 2008 – Animals don’t make choices and, given the chance, live their lives. Cats are endlessly fascinating to me. Like many thing in my life, they are new to me. Mother is a remarkable combination of love and murder. She loves me, follows me everywhere, appears wheneve I am outside, and, in an instant, is transformed into an intense and alert killer of anything she can kill. The transformation always amazes me, and I got a photo of it above, with a 100 mm macro lens, great for detail like animal hair or grass, when Mother, who was in my lap, spotted something to kill and torture. She is living her life, making her choices, living the life of a barn cat, and, as such, is an inspiration to me.

Days rush past here, and I’m surprised it’s another weekend.
