April 23, 2008 – Have tried a new thing with Rose, and she is overjoyed, I think. Every morning, I take the sheep across the road with her, and I leave her there, to sit with the sheep. I was concerned she would move them around in the heat, but I sat back and watched her closely through the farmhouse window.
An hour later, when I came out, she was sitting happily in the same spot, seemingly unbothered by the clouds of flies and gnats that shrouded her head or the heat that drove the sheep under shade. The sheep, I saw, trust her, and graze some, then rest out of the sun.
So this is a new gift to Rose, a new part of our routine, and there could not be a happier dog. Tonight, a quiet night, driving down Route 22 to catch some farm scenes in the afternoon sun.
