December 7, 2007 – Every day, without fail, for nearly five years, Rose pursues an imaginary squirrel, one she first saw up this tree in 2003. The squirrel, no fool, has never returned, but Rose will not give up the work, no matter the weather, light or circumstance. I worry about Rose sometimes, fearing she doesn’t appreciate the good things in life, and will simply work herself to exhaustion. But she loves her work, and is nothing if not diligent. I have to decided my next book will be about Rose:  The Rose Chronicles – The Life of a Working Dog and her Farm. She deserves it.
