December 6, 2007 – Sunrise looks different every morning over the town of Hebron, where I live, especially when it’s this cold. This shot is towards Vermont. I always think I really wouldn’t like to be a donkey or sheep, but just went to check on them, and they are huddled up in the pole barn, quite content. Lenore and Izzy and I went tonight to talk to the Lions Club, meeting at the Elks Club in Greenwich. Neat crowd, and an almost jarring reminder of what community can mean in small towns, and what it used to mean. Teachers, businessment, bankers, farmers, and the farmers loved hearing me talk about Elvis, my 2,500 Swiss Steer, and how we sit up on the hill some mornings and jeer at the less fortunate bovines down in the farms in the valley.
Izzy was usual whorish self, greeting one and all, and Lenore scarfed up some bread crumbs and fell asleep, snoring while I talked. She’s a great dog. Eager to get to writing tomorrow. Nice messages from everywhere.
