November 29, 2007 – Cold, sunny. Was photographing the stone wall when Mother appeared, demanding a scratch, so got this shot. Was further blessed by the appearance of Mary Kellogg, my friend and poet, who came by with some new poems for her forthcoming book, to be published next Spring (still untitled).
We walked the dogs down the path, listening for signs of hunters, and she gave me this poem, hot off the computer, about Lenore. I love it:
“Lenore,” by Mary Kellogg
yours is not a button nose
it is a stubborn bump on a square muzzle
solid little body wrapped in plush black coat
huge padded paws
foretell an impressive body
eyes of deepest brown
possess the soul of the earth
searching, adoring
mirthful, watchful
delight at sight of Izzy and Rose
your new found friends
acceptance granted
Lenore a gift of love
promise to all that is new
to a thousand tomorrows
