Our Lady of the Barn

by Jon Katz

November 27, 2007  – Cold, cloudy, snow predicted. I call her Our Lady of the Barn, and she came to me in pieces from Jack Metzger of Cambridge, who found the bottom, then the torso at some estate and broght both pieces to me. We are still seeking the head. She stands in my Victory Garden, the old concrete silo by the barn, and I don’t really know who she is. Somebody suggested she might be St. Therese, the patron of barns and gardens, but I don’t really know. She watches over the farm and, apart from having toppled over then the garden soil turned mushy after a blizzard (she is on steadier ground now), her stay here has been serene. I hope some to see her head, which must be beautiful.
