Off to New York City

by Jon Katz

October 23, 2007 – Cloudy, warm. Off to New York City for two days to see Paula, hope to see “Into the Wild” the Jon Krakauer movie, and also Anthony and I are going to meet Dr. Edward Hallowell, the best-selling author and one of the country’s leading experts on ADD. Anthony and I are both excited to meet him. Anthony and I are working together on a paperback picture book, “Paying Attention,” about his experiences with ADD and other issues, an experience I feel I’ve been able to capture in photos.
I will miss the farm, as usual, but it will be great to see Paula and Lenore is going to a sleepover at Annie’s house, which, for any animal, is a treat beyond imagination. I’m excited about this book, about my photos, about the book Mary Kellogg is going to publish about her poetry. Lenore has been a great addition to my life, Izzy and I are renewing hospice work next week after a brief respite, and Lenore may join us, and Rose is recovering from her wounds from the four-wheeler and will have her bandages changed tomorrow. I am also off to a good start on my next book, and have finished the prologue. I hope to really bear down when I get back. Above is Lenore’s new hiding spot on the porch, where she chews things. I am crazy about her, I have to say. Good to have a Lab back on the farm, and the border collies are grudgingly accepting her.
