Art Harvest ready to open

by Jon Katz

October 13, 2007 – Cool, sunny. Art Harvest opens this morning, and I went to Gardenworks to check on things and one couldn’t have seen a more auspicious sight than the sun coming up through the fog across from Harold McEachron’s house. Felt blessed. Art Harvest opens at 10 at Gardenworks, Salem, N.Y., (518 854 3250). I will be showing and selling photos and bringing dogs (books will be signed and sold as well), Anthony Armstrong will be showing off his very striking and powerful concrete sculptures, Maria Heinrich will be showing her fiber art and other works and Mary Kellogg will be reading from and selling  her poetry (proceeds for sales to benefit Friends of Hospice). The elves in the Gardenworks kitchen were busy this morning cranking out pies, cookies, cider donuts, hot cider and offering cheese, chowder, produce, crafts and dried flowers.
Later this morning, Anthony will unveil his not-yet-seen GI Joe sculpture, a reflection on violence and childhood. It is pretty powerful stuff. His other pieces will be around Gardenworks and he, along with  his associate Cail  Johnstone,  will be giving away concrete coasters and selling some decorative concrete art pieces. Maria will be up in the rafters spinning.
