Lenore is ready for Art Harvest – are you?

by Jon Katz

Art Harvest opens tomorrow at Gardenworks in Salem, N.Y., 518 854 3250, 10 to 5 p.m, both days, talks at 2 p.m. Izzy and Lenore will be on hand much of the time as will me (showing photos), Maria Heinrich (fiber art), Anthony Armstrong (concrete sculptures) and and Mary Kellogg (poetry). Gardenworks will be offering fall foliage (higher forces have a hand in that), pumpkins, squash and produce, cheese and chowder, cider and donuts, pies and crafts, music and hospitality. Good stuff all around. Below, the show as it’s being set up, under the tasteful supervision of Maria. Part of Anthony’s powerful “chain” sculpture was put in yesterday, the rest later today.
Most of us will be hanging around all day, but the talks start in the early afternoon. Proceeds from our works go to Friends of Hospice. Anthony will be giving away concrete coasters from Armstrong Stone (you will be surprised by the artistry of concrete – I am). The pictures and poems are signed, and my photos are mostly limited editions. This is a leap of faith for all of us, and it is a poweful testament to friendship and the power of creativity. Also a statement from all of us about the artist in everyone, and the need to sometimes sidestep the art “authorities” and show our stuff to the world. Cute dogs will be there, too.
Gardenworks is near the Vermont border, close to Manchester and Dorset, also about an hour from Albany, three hours from New York. It’s supposed to be a gorgeous day, and the leaves are in full riot.

Izzy checks out the Fiber Dress and the first hangings of pictures and poems. He seems pleased
