October 11, 2007 – Lenore loves the crate now, slept through the night without a peep. Two or there sleepless nights, while she yowled, but it was worth it. She is calmer, more grounded already. She has a safe place to go rest and settle, and I have a place to put her when I am busy or when she is being obnoxious.
I have begun some obedience training in the morning, when she is hungry and alert. I use kibble from her breakfast, so she will be keen, and I am working on “Lenore,” to get her attention, and then “come”as a command. Using bits of liver treats, small ones as her stomach isn’t used to rich foods.
She has a limited attention span and is easily distracted at nine weeks, so the pressure is on me to be calm, positive and keep expectations low. We work for two or three minutes, then stop. The border collies seem easier around her, too. Tough week, successful. She knows her name, is housebroken, makes eye contact. Have a problem with her playfully running off when I approach her. Got to watch that. She’s a great dog. Took her to Glens Falls this morning. She already loves the car, has met half the county. Why is that women are suddenly all over me?
