October 1, 2007 – Happy anniversary, Paula. Love you much. Sunny, cool, beautiful. Today is Anne the gardener’s last visit of the year, and I will miss her. She is a quiet, beautiful presence, and one of those fascinating and wonderful people I meet from time to time on the farm. She comes early, cuddles with Mother the Barn Cat, and works long and hard hours. One of those people who is not afraid of silence, and communicates through it. She has done an amazing job tending for my old and funky gardens. She asks for nothing, but sometimes I bring her tea with honey. She asked this morning if I could save some donkey manure for her for next season. No problem. Lulu is lame, and I called Ken Norman the farrier to come and help tend to her leg. Probably an abscess, although I felt a tear on her pad. Anyway, thanks Anne. You have an inner prescence (and an outer one) that is special and beautiful and I am pleased and grateful that you are part of Bedlam Farm. It was sad to see you drive off in your Subaru for the last time this season. The cats and dogs will miss you, too, especially the Barn Cats Mother and Minnie. Hopefully, I will see you back here in the Spring.
