Moving Patterson Ridge, by Robbin Slater

by Jon Katz

September 26, 2007 – Sunny, warm. Izzy and I spent much of the day making hospice calls. He is a wonderful dog, and brought pleasure into the lives of some deserving people and their families. When we got home, we found that Robbin and his crew – Steve and Jake – had moved another mountain, this one behind the Pole Barn, which had been rotting and flooding. Now, we can get a tractor around and up the hill, and the water will drain off away from the animals. So the donkeys and sheep have an expanded pole barn, one that is shielded from the winds, and protected from the water. That Pole Barn, originally built by Anthony, has come a long way. Below, the crew spreads grass seed (I would not want to be on that hill in that tractor myself) and, then, Izzy gets the sheep and brings them down to the hay feeder.
