Into the wild

by Jon Katz

September 23, 2007 – Went camping in the Merck Forest and Preserve in Rupert, Vt. this weekend. Beautiful place, beautiful weather, long walks, chilly nights, good friends yakking by campfires, early morning treks into the woods to take pictures. My feet hurt, as does my back. I had a wonderful time, and can’t wait to go back, this time in the cold. Got lost a couple of times and took some wrong turns, but good guides (Anthony) got me where I needed to go and helped me haul the things I needed to haul. Bill and Maria hiked up, as did Holly, Cail and Jennifer and Emma. Ida came to sleepover and we made a fairy castle out of sticks. Izzy came along and was very quiet and unobstrusive as usual, curling up under a dark and dank bunk. When I got back I rushed around the farm greeting goats, donkeys and cows.
I put up a couple of other pictures from Merck in the Photo Journal.  I am pondering getting a new website to supplement this one, Photos by Jon Katz, a place to put some non-farm pictures and stop cluttering up this site with photos. Raeanne , the designer from Trampoline in Glens Falls, says we should call them photos, not pictures. I am taking a shower, and then a nap, then dinner with Becky. Also putting ice on my back. Paula was dubious about my getting out alive, but I did. I made it.
