Art Harvest – October 13-14 Leap of Faith

Saturday, September 1, 2007 – Cool, sunny, beautiful. The best time of year. One more truckload of hay and some Don Cavna magic with the water to the cows and I’ll be set for winter, and start work on on a book – not sure which. Going to pass out postcards for Art Harvest this morning. Perhaps go visit Paula and see some movies for a couple of days. Exciting and promising time. The animals are all growing their winter coats, their internal weather systems keeping them on track. With the Pole Barn extention, there is plenty of shelter for everybody. Below, two pictures for Art Harvest, Leap of Faith: Four Friends Share their art, scheduled for Gardenworks in Salem, N.Y., (518 854 3250) on October 13-14. The weekend will include demonstrations, the sale of food, baked goods, crafts and produce from Gardenworks and the work of four artists, who happen to be close friends and who are all taking a Leap of Faith of one kind or another. The Art Harvest marks the first time Anthony Armstrong has shown his concrete sculptures, the first show of fiber art for Maria Heinrich in several years, a celebration of the poetry of Mary Kellogg, who wrote beautiful poems for more than half a century without showing them to anyone, and my coming out as a photographer. Some of our works will be sold, for the benefit of Friends of Hospice.
Mary, Anthony and Maria are beautiful people, talented artists, great and valued friends. Hope you can make it out to see their work. There will be lots going on, as their usually is at Gardenworks, including their famed cider donuts and hot cider. Izzy and I and maybe some other dogs will be there most of the weekend, and will give a couple of talks in the early afternoon of both days. Mary will also read from  her poetry, and Anthony is threatening to make casts of the hands of children. All of us are taking big steps in different ways, big and small, and speaking through our art.
Below, picture of Mary Kellogg at her farm, and the latest state of Anthony’s sculpture mold, which seems to radiate light. My light stand was on and nearby, but the mold seems to take on a light of its own. I love taking pictures of Mary Kellogg, who seems, for me, to define the idea of grace.
