Number 70

Number 70

No. 70 is different. When I took Orson out to the Raspberry Ridge Sheep Farm in Bangor, Pa. to work with Carolyn Wilki, the best trainer I have ever known, Number 70 was the first ewe I ever worked with. When I came to Bedlam Farm, Carolyn sold me some of her sheep (and gave me Carol the donkey, my first donkey). Number 70 had four or five lambs here, and one or two at Darryl Kuehne’s in Vermont. I remember pulling two lambs out of her nearly dead body one winter night while the vet rushed to get here. She is a tough old girl, and she is getting tired. I wonder if perhaps she ought to stay here with the donkeys when the other sheep go back to  Vermont. Rose has been working with  Number 70 her whole life and the two are pals. Number 70 moves when she feels like it, and Rose doesn’t bother her.
