The Pig Barn Art Show, June

Maria takes some video of Mary Kellogg reading one of her poems as artists Jack Metzger and Diane Swanson check out the space. Serena Kovalosky will also be on hand to show and sell her gilted gourds. Jack takes photos and makes sculptures of lost objects. Diane Swanson does Fusion art, using painting and computer parts. Maria will be showing her fiberwork and I’ll be showing a few photographs. The artists got together to plan the show in the new Pig Barn Art Gallery. Maria is converting the Pig Barn into an art gallery,  and hopes to have a number of art shows in the space, where pigs were once slaughtered.

This is a monumental step forward for the mighty little Pig Barn, whose floors once ran red with the blood. How fitting. Maria plans to put in lighting, and clean out the pallets.

The public is invited, Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, from ll to 4.  The artists will have a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, and they will be at the farm to meet people and talk about their work.

The sheep will also be back on the farm by then, and weather permitting, Rose will move them around at 3 p.m. each day, right behind the Pig Barn. Other than that, this is an art show, not a dog event.  This is the first public event  ever offered on the farm and we are confident it will work out. Maria is thinking of a fiber art show next – spinning, weaving, felting – perhaps in the Fall.

The Pig Barn Art Gallery artists gathered today at the farm to  have lunch and plan the first show, called: “From The Everyday To Art.”  It’s a fun group. We can’t offer refreshments, but Gardenworks, just down the road, has great stuff from gourmet cheese and bread to cookies and fresh farm produce.

The idea of Maria’s show is to celebrate the idea of everyday art as objects, a theme that recurs in her work, and that of the other artists. You are invited to come by.
