Some of you know that I have for some time been exploring the idea of animals having a conversation with us – not the sappy Disney kind – but something more meaningful and spiritual. I know what we are saying to them sometimes, but not what they are saying to us (and no, it isn’t just “we love you.” It’s deeper, I think.) I am looking for photographs hat capture that idea, and this, I think, is one. Frieda is a very expressive dog. I don’t believe she’s saying “thank you for rescuing me.” I think she is communicating something wordless and intense and very powerful. And I don’t know what it is.
