In the barn, Ed works seamlessly, wordlessly with Judy and with his daughter Marie. Ed hauls the milkers back and forth, hauls the wheelbarrow with feed around, shovels manure – everyone does that. He also gets the cows in and helps get them back into the pasture. He goes down the hill and pours feed from the silos. He walks stiffly, suggesting pain, but does not ever complain.
