Ed loves farming and has perfected a gruff exterior, but he glows around his family, which gathered – along with many of the friends they grew up with – to eat, drink coffee, and play hearts. All over the Washington County Fair, families were clustered, eating, talking, tending to their cows. They exude a purpose and community that seems to me to be dying out all over America, and they are under so much pressure it is hard to imagine this scene will exist in a few years. So I cherish it and want to record it. Something awful is being lost and discarded in the Corporate Nation, something important.
