Chronicle of a family farm. Hay wagon

by Jon Katz
Hay wagon, Rouse Farm

At Big Valley Farm, the Rouse  family farm, there is always a wagon or a tractor out, ready to go or just back from a chore.  These machines speak to the farm’s never-ending cycle of work and chores, which go on almost round the clock. Today, Christine Nemec  of the Redux Gallery and I decided to publish two sets of notecards celebrating the Family Farm, one color and one black-and-white, and they will be offered to together. Some of the proceeds will go to farmer’s aid groups. Family farms are perishing all over the country, and it seems a grievous loss to me. It is amazing to me that we would save banks and car makers but not family farmers. They will be missed, and so will the powerful values and sense of individuality they embrace and embody.  The first set of notecards, the “Dogs of Bedlam Farm” has sold out. We are reprinting. Flowers and light series will be out shortly. Notecards, all signed,  are available for viewing and purchase on the Redux site.
