Wicked smart. Lulu and Fanny

by Jon Katz
Donkeys open doors

The first thing you learn abut donkeys is not to underestimate them. They are wicked smart, and can open doors, latches, and nose aside openings. When I go into the barn, the donkeys immediately try and sneak in with me. If I don’t latch the door, the nose it open and sneak in. Donkeys are curious. They watch and if you leave a gate open for a second they will skitter through it. Then come back in, because they don’t really want to be inside. Donkeys don’t do things because you want them to. They have to think it’s their idea.
