We had another wonderful time tubing on the Battenkill with our friends Jack and Mary. I am beginning to figure tubing out. I got a good tube, one with a small headrest, for my back. It is big enough for me, and it rides high on the water, which can sometimes move quickly. The water was higher than last week, due to recent rain.
I love closing my eyes, leaning my head back, and letting the currents move me along. It reminds me that I am powerless, and in the hands of spirits much more powerful and important than I am. Maria also loves it, and is wonderful to have something like that to do with her outdoors, and tubing is especially wonderful on hot days like today. We might go tomorrow. I got a small 12 v. air pump that plugs into the car lighter port and blows up the tube. After an hour of floating, we landed in Shushan, near where we had parked the truck. It is quiet, peaceful, beautiful. I am so grateful for finding this beautiful, inexpensive and accessible thing to do and to feel absorbed by nature. I loved watching the smile on Maria’s face, listening to the ripple of the water, seeing the sun play. I had to take the small Canon G11 and when my waterproof bag comes, I’m eager to take the bigger camera. Lots of plays on light and color.
