Anger, cont.

The winter pasture

February 11, 2010 – Every winter has its own nature and character, and this one is gentle, cold but also lighter, easier. Not many big storms, and Spring seems close. The sun is high and strong.

I’ve been moving along with my short stories, a creative time. Thinking about anger, and the need to be able to show it, articulate it, but not become consumed of overtaken by it. It is a natural emotion, a part of all of us. Most of my life, I’ve dreaded showing anger. And I’m not yet quite sure how to do it, or when. I think it is, in some ways, about being honest, about finding one’s True Nature. To say what you mean, and to be known that way. Difficult for me, but important.

I have read that anger is a great protective device, that it permits the people who express it to feel protected and safe. People who can’t express it often turn it inward, upon themselves, and it becomes fear. An interesting idea.
