Maria, bringing Frieda back from a three hour rampage through the woods
Frieda’s training is going well, but every now and then, she reminds us of the perils of getting sloppy in dog training. She was walking with us on the path Saturday, and suddenly bolted after something – a chipmunk, deer or other animal. This happens from time to time, although rarely lately. Most of the time Frieda is on a leash when she leaves the farm, but we are working with her to heel and walk calmly, and that usually works well, but Saturday she took off into the deep woods and we spent several hours looking for her, on foot and on the ATV. Maria finally found her exhausted and running in circles in the woods near the farm.
While looking for her, a rabbit came tearing past us, and a beautiful and rare gray fox screeched to a halt right in front of us, stared at us, then turned around. An eerie and beautiful moment. Frieda is fine. Training resumes.
