Shearer David Hinman of New Hampshire came to Bedlam Farm to shear my sheep. A warm, skilled, honest, funny man, this was the kind of experience that makes me savor my life, and appreciate the strength, commitment and individuality that thrives in some work and many parts of the country.
David showed up, set up his tools, and handled the sheep lovingly and confidently. He also runs a yarn company. This makes sense. Who would know wool better than a shearer?
David was her most of the afternoon, charged little, did amazing work, which he clearly loves, as physical and tiring as it is. Like many good shearers, he also has great stories to tell. Thanks to Darryl Kuehne, who also loves sheep and his work, for helping out. A stream of friends and neighbors poured through the barn to watch. Shorn sheep do not recognize one another, so there is a lot of bumping and butting going on. Rose was stellar, as was Izzy. Some photos to follow.
