My wooden egg

by Jon Katz

Okay, I ought to be able to outsmart a bunch of chickens, although that has not always been the case. My friend Melissa Batalin, who grew up on a farm, says that if you put wooden eggs where you want the chickens to lay, they will be fooled and lay an egg there, which would solve my problem of not being able to find out where the chickens are laying eggs. I put two wooden eggs in a roost and am going to take photos of this wooden egg in the meantime. Melissa got me a bunch of wooden eggs and so we are off. In the meantime, this is my daily egg and its wood.
We will see if I am smarter than a chicken.
