I call her Miss Pearl, as she is beautiful, regal and quite a presence. She is visiting the farm with my daugher Emma, with whom she lives much of the year in Brooklyn. She walks miles a day, and has lots of admirers, and she and Em are close to inseparable. She is a writing support dog, doing for Em what she did for me. A champion show dog, I got her from a wonderful breeder in West Pawlet, Pam Leslie, of Hillside Labradors, when Pearl was done breeding.
Em fell in love with her, and vice versa, so she went to the big city, but she settles in happily when she is here, and Lenore is crazy about her, and loves to hang out with her, even sleeping downstairs at night when she is here. Pearl is a great dog, and when she is here, I look at these four wonderful dogs – Pearl, Izzy, Lenore and Rose – and think how lucky I am. I am wild about Lenore, but no dog has eyes like Pearl. They just melt your heart.
