Lenore is home

by Jon Katz

January 11, 2008 – Lenore is back from vet, spayed, a bit sluggish, hungry as ever. She has to take it easy for a few days, so some nights in the crate. I miss her. She is a lot of love, and I missed smiling as much.
I am close to finishing my next book, “Izzy, Lenore, and Me: Unexpected Journeys” focusing on my hospice work with Izzy, the acquisition of Lenore, and also, as a sub-plot, some of my struggle with a sudden and nasty depression
After that, I’ve decided to do a book about Rose, called “Rose, Barnyard Tales,” dealing with my life with her on the farm, the work she does, and her interaction with the goats, donkeys, sheep, steers, cows and chickens. So while Rose will finally get the attention she deserves in a book, I will also write about the social interactions of my other animals. Izzy is getting lots of richly deserved attention this week, but Rose is a truly great dog, and I could not live here a day without her. The Izzy, Lenore is being published this October, and I am doing a multi-city book tour, don’t know where yet.
Also, on the Bedlam Farm Books front, Maria and I are close to finishing work on “Out of the Shadows,” the first book, both words and pictures to come from the BFB imprint. That will be followed by Mary Kellogg’s volume of poetry.  There are three or four other projects we are mulling, and we will keep you posted.
Also, my photo website, photosbyjonkatz.com, designed by Raeanne Wright of Trampoline Design in Glens Falls, is due to go live next week and I am going through this site to figure out how to transfer some of the pictures. There will continue to be pictures here, both in Farm Journal and Photo Journal. I am shutting down the Portrait Gallery.
