Lesley the Bedlam Farm Shaman came to the farm at dusk today to seek out ghosts and spirits. She found James Patterson, who built the farm, old and stooped and hovering above the old orchard in the back of the farmhouse. She heard the cry of a pig slaughtered in the pig barn and the unheeded pleas of the young girl who tried to save it. She found the ghost of a young man who hung himself in my dairy barn silo, which she said was a dark vortex inside the barn. The death had something to do with a runaway slave she said, and the young man who hung himself thought it was a mistake as he died, and then, using rattles and burning sage, she summoned the wind, and ghosts and angels. She saw a broken-hearted woman crying over her lost love in the loft of the big old carriage barn. The animals behaved so strangely, the cats, chickens, dogs and donkeys and dogs gathered around her, following her, barking, meowing, clucking and the donkeys anxious and running in circles. I never saw them like that, not all gathered in the same place making noise. Don’t know what to make of it, but something quite remarkable happened. Then Lesley, exhausted, sat with me on the porch and gave me a talisman she made for my diabetes.
